GUWAHATI: To get rid of ‘deadwood’ from the police force, Assam Police will professionally record the Body Mass Index (BMI) of all its personnel, including IPS officers.

Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh said that three months’ time till August 15 would be given to all Assam Police personnel, including IPS and APS officers, to get into shape and then BMI assessment would start in the next 15 days. All those who are in obese (BMI 30+) category would be offered another three months’ time to reduce weight (till November end) and after that VRS option will be provided, except to those who have genuine health issues like thyriodism. Assam Police will be the first to have BMI assessment on August 16, said the DGP.
