GUWAHATI: A historic moment was marked during the SP (Superintendent of Police) Conference in Bongaigaon on Friday, when Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa unveiled the much- anticipated logo of the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF).

The STF’s logo unveiling ceremony was attended by dignitaries and officials from different law enforcement agencies, who had come together to witness this important milestone in the enhancement of Assam's security apparatus.

Apart from Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Director General of Police G P Singh, the man of the moment, STF chief Partha Sarathi Mahanta was present on the stage at the time of the unveiling of the STF logo.

The Special Task Force (STF), Assam was conceptualized as an elite force within the Assam Police, displaying professional acuity in terms of precise operation, quality investigation, attitude and expertise over technical gadgets, enabling the force to conduct highly dangerous, risky counter terrorism operations that are outside of the purview of the District Police.

In addition, the STF is mandated with investigation of complicated extremism or terrorism related cases having far reaching consequences for the state and region, including investigation of special organized crimes. With terrorist organizations increasingly developing links with organized crime cartels, the focus on organized crime along with terrorist organizations has been an objective of the STF.

The STF deals with organized crime in the areas of weapons dealing, vehicle theft, money laundering (hawala), drugs, narcotics, smuggling, fake currency, mafia groups, criminal syndicates and other organized crimes likely to affect internal security and national security interests.

With the release of its official logo, the symbolic identity of the force has also been set, prepping it for missions to maintain peace and security across Assam.

Speaking to the audience on the occasion, CM Dr. Sarma underscored the importance of the STF in its role in the maintenance of law and order. He stressed that all efforts will be made to equip the force with the latest tools, training, and technology to enable it to tackle emerging security threats effectively. Expressed his full confidence in the capabilities of the STF, the CM assured the force of full support from the state government to enable it to fulfill its mandate.

The logo that was unveiled today has profound significance, which reflect the core values of the STF. The background of the logo is red, with the Sarnath Lions symbol flanked by the words Assam Police on top. Below it are two crossed rifles, underneath which are the spread wings of an eagle in blue, with STF written on top, the ‘T’ elongated down to the tail. The elements in the design symbolize strength, vigilance, and a commitment to serve and protect the people of Assam.

A safer future for Assam is envisaged, with the STF expected to play a pivotal role in upholding the rule of law and preserving the state's tranquility. The people eagerly await the actions by the STF in giving a befitting, resolute and swift response to criminal elements and ensuring a peaceful environment for all residents.
