KOKRAJHAR: Kokrajhar District Administration has geared up for free and fair election in 3rd phase slated to be held on April 6 with necessary security arrangement.

Talking to media persons, the Returning Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar, Bhaskar Phukan said the district administration is all set for smooth conduct of election in three constituencies- Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar West and Kokrajhar East. He said for smooth conduct of 3rd phase election, the district had been divided in to 5 zones and 23 sectors, both civil sector and police section. Each sector would be looked after by one sector officer and they will have one each spare EVM for any possible defective machines, he said adding that each sector will have one section of armed police personnel to control the situation.

Phukan said that there are 409 sensitive, 169 very sensitive, 134 critical and 403 comparatively safe polling stations in the district. He said adequate vehicles has been requisitioned for transportation of polling officials in their respective destinations and due to shortfall of requisite vehicles, the administration has hired number of vehicles from West Bengal too. There are no water routes in Kokrajhar district and maximum distance is not beyond 2 hours to reach, he said adding that the polling officials would be carried on Monday and there is not much difficulty as other districts have.

It may be mentioned that a total of 1,83,993 electorates with 90,475 male and 92,416 female will cast their votes in 282 polling stations in Kokrajhar East (ST) and 1,86,389 electorates with 94,185 male and 89,664 female will cast votes in 267 polling stations in Kokrajhar West (ST) constituencies. Similarly, 1,91,069 electorates with 96,933 male and 91,848 female will cast votes in Gossaigaon constituency on April 6.
