TINSUKIA: In sync with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL), under the guidance of Ministry of Power, Assam, organized the Bijlee Mahotsav 'Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya-Power at 2047' at Tipongpani, Margherita on Wednesday.
The programme showcased testimonials from the beneficiaries of central electrification schemes in the area. It was followed by short films on Universal Household Electrification (REC), Village Electrification (REC), Renewable Energy (SECI), Consumer Rights etc, street plays and cultural performances by the local artists.
The public programme initiated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp was addressed by Bharat Deka, GM, NEEPCO, Munindra Bordoloi, CEO, Zilla Parishad, Tinsukia and Abhijeet Pathak, CEO, Tinsukia Electrical Circle. While Deka spoke on the steps initiated by the Centre and the State Government, focusing on making India a future energy-independent nation, Bordoloi stated that electrification had benefitted marginalized households of many underdeveloped areas of the State through central schemes like Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana 'Saubhagya' and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yoj.
Pathak stated that in the last eight years, the power scenario had changed a lot and many households are reaping the benefits of rural electrification. He said that the power department had been working incessantly for undisrupted power supply and sought cooperation from the public. The programme was also attended by Urvashi Chetia, BDO, Margherita, Udhav Sarma, Gaon Bura, Tipongpani and other officials and staff of APDCL.
