GUWAHATI: The Assam government Panchayat and Rural Development Department will fill up the vacant posts lying in the department soon, said Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass.

Minister Dass, who is also holding the Food and Civil Supply Department, informed that the P&RD Department is all set to fill up all the vacant posts both regular and non-permanent in consonance with the earlier declaration by the state government.

"Our department is going to fill up the vacant posts soon. We will fill up all the vacant posts both the regular and non-permanent," he said.

The Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government promised that it will give government employment to 1 lakh unemployed eligible youths in the days to come. A few days ago the government revealed in the assembly session that more than 1 lakh posts lying vacant in its different departments.

Meanwhile, today the P&RD Department kick-started the three-day 'Orientation Training on Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Programmes' for newly appointed BDOs by Hon'ble Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development Ranjeet Kr. Dass at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara, Guwahati.

Earlier, the Assam government has decided to keep ready at last 10 schemes at the grassroots level each year under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act)-2005'. The move aims at ensuring that the targeted beneficiaries get work within the GPs (Gaon Panchayats) regularly.

In this regard, the Assam Commissionerate of Panchayat & Rural Development (P&RD) has already issued the directive to the CEOs (Chief Executive Officers) of Zilla Parishad, project directors of DRDA (District Rural Development Agency), and also the BDOs (Block Development Officers) to implement 10 schemes at the Gram Panchayat (GP)-level.
