Assam: Probe into massive land scam demanded

NAGAON: Several hundreds bighas of eksonia land as well as vishesh eksonia land of indigenous assamese hindu families in Kabaimari, Colony Jalah, Lalungaon, Telia Bebejia and other villages under Rupahihat revenue circle allegedly had been registered and also transferred overnight to some citizens of doubtful nationalities by a group of land revenue supervisor, Lat Mandals and authority concerned of the revenue circle for over half a decade.

This serious land scam which has been continuing till date in the district, has surfaced when Krishak Shramik Unnayan Parishad, a leading farmers’ organisation of the state submitted two separate memoranda along with sufficient supporting documents to State Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan and District Commissioner, Nagaon a couple of days back. In the memorandum, Mukul Bora and Utpal Boruah, respectively, president and secretary of the farmers’ organization alleged that the then as well as the incumbent officials concerned of the circle seriously violated all the prevailing Land Act while registering as well as transferring the land from the indigenous Assamese Hindu families to some people of the areas here just on the basis of a simple application which is completely contrary to the Land Act.

The organization also stated in the memorandum that the land expired on 17/12/2013 can be sold through registration documents only after 10 years of expiry date. But as per documents submitted with the memorandum, found the land expired on 17/12/2013, was allowed to be sold or bought on 4/4/2014.

The farmers’ organization demanded a high level probe into the entire episode and also urged the minister of the concerned department to bring the then as well as current circle officers of the revenue circle and other Lat Mandals concerned of those areas under the scanner. While speaking to this correspondent, Utpal Boruah, the secretary of the organization said that the State Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan immediately declared a high level probe into the massive land scam in the district. Besides, the minister assured that he would monitor the probe.

Meanwhile, following the development in connection with this malicious land scam in the district, one unknown person threatened Prabhat Kalita, the noted social activist and the executive president of Batadrova Than Management Committee with death over phone. The social activist also lodged an FIR in Nagaon PS in this regard a couple of days back.
