Assam: Problems Arise between AASA and ATTSA

BISWANATH: The All Adivasi Students Association (AASA) of Assam has spoken against the activities of the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) aimed against the president of the All Adivasi Students Union president Pradip Nag. They alleged that the student body has given some unsolicited comments against Pradip Nag over social media and other platforms from a meeting organised at the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha auditorium premised in Biswanath.

The members of the All Adivasi Students Association mentioned that they have been raising the demand that they should be granted Adivasi status by the state government for a very long time. They also mentioned that the Adivasi population is higher in the tea gardens, hence they should be granted the status for the same. They added that those who want the Tea Tribe Status can demand the same, but those who demand the Adivasi Status should also be granted what they demand.

A few days back the members of the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association had called Pradip Nag a star campaigner for a political party, to which the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam reacted and asked for proof of him being the star campaigner for a political party. They also mentioned that the Adivasi association does not need to be educated by the Tea Tribes association.

They also mentioned that Pradip Nag will continue to work for the Adivasis. They also demanded that the government mention the Adivasi on the birth certificate of the children born in the community adding that they won't accept certificates mentioning them as Tea Tribes. They also demanded that the Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare Department Fund be given to them as the Adivasi fund.

It remains to see what happens in the future as the two organisations demand separate recognitions for the local people.
