Assam: Protest staged against decision to make Bajali a sub-district

PATHSALA: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and students of Bhattadev University staged a strong protest against the State Government’s decision to degrade the erstwhile Bajali district into a sub-district.

They expressed strong views and strongly criticized the sudden decision. They also thronged the national highway 31 and shouted slogans against the government and demanded Bajali to remain a district. A large number of police personnel were deployed to control the situation.

Three leaders were also booked by police. A public meeting will also be held on Thursday to discuss this matter. According to an official notification issued on Tuesday, the sub-divisions, to be known as sub-districts, have been created for administrative expediency and to derive maximum synergy, productivity and efficiency at the grassroots level.
