DOOMDOOMA: A massive event was organised in Doomdooma recently in Doomdooma to promote the cultivation of oil palm in the region and the entire state. However, the pathetic condition of the venue after the completion of the event has raised questions among the local people.

Although massive public events are hosted across the state for various purposes, proper attention is hardly given to cleaning the venue after the event or making arrangements for the proper disposal of the waste generated. The same thing was noticed in Doomdooma after the public meeting which saw the presence of several dignitaries including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Baba Ramdev and the locals are still facing problems because of the unhealthy conditions created by the rotting garbage and plastic materials.

The event was organised at the Laopani Village under the Saikhowa Development Block in Doomdooma on 8 August 2023 and even after 2 and a half weeks, no steps were taken by the administration to clean the venue. The Agriculture department along with Patanjali Foods had organised this event to announce the beginning of oil palm in the location. People of the region questioned the intentions of the organisers and said that should have made the arrangements for wrapping up the garbage alongside the planning for such a massive event.

Large quantities of plastic plates, glasses and bottles remain scattered in the venue. Other wastes continue to rot causing the problems of nauseating odours. Domestic animals have also consumed these items leading to their death and causing problems for the poor rural public.

Meanwhile, in Guwahati several potholes have appeared near the Ganesh Mandir roundabout near Ganeshguri, making it very difficult for motorists, especially those using two-wheelers. Another massive pothole near the Vishal point on AT Road creates problems for all vehicles. Also, the Hatigaon road is completely in chaos because of the incompletion of the developmental projects.

One of the residents said, "The recent accident that took the life of one should make the authorities more vigilant and work immediately. We cannot travel properly because of these potholes. There are many rickshaw pullers who have met with accidents as they cannot pull because of these potholes. A single vehicle cannot commute without getting stuck in those potholes. It has really become a matter of concern for all the citizens."
