BONGAINGAON: Even after the state police and other authorities have carried out operations against cattle smuggling in different parts of the state, they have been unable to prevent repetitions of these incidents as yet another such incident came to light in Abhayapuri on Thursday night.
The miscreants are now using the national highways to transport cattle illegally in the dead of the night. This came to light when local people apprehended two commercial vehicles and found a total of 14 cattle heads loaded in the vehicle. The incident took place in the Tulungiya locality of Bongaingaon District.
It was mentioned that the cattle were being transported illegally from somewhere in the Chirang District to the Legtisinga locality of Abhayapuri in the Bongaigaon district. The local people informed the North Salmara Police Station and a police team arrived at the spot. They seized the two vehicles and rescued the cattle. They also arrested the drivers for transporting the animals without due permission. The registration number of one of the seized vehicles is AS 19 AC 4918.
Previously, in a significant operation carried out by the police in Assam's Nagaon district, authorities have successfully recovered 32 stolen cattle and arrested one person involved in the cattle theft. The operation, led by sub-divisional police officer Kaliabor Rupjyoti Dutta, took place in Nagaon's Kaliabor area, with the results announced the next day. During the operation, a dedicated police team managed to apprehend three vehicles carrying the stolen cattle, subsequently seizing these vehicles along with making an arrest of the primary accused. This decisive action demonstrates the local law enforcement's commitment to curbing cattle theft and illegal cattle trading in the region. However, the investigations into the matter continue to uncover further details and potential accomplices. Notably, this operation comes on the heels of another successful crackdown on illegal cattle activities.
