MANGALDAI: Strong sensation has been prevailing in Mangaldai following the recovery of fake press identity card and a live ammunition from an arrested quack who was also practising black magic. He was identified as Mukut Dewan alias Muktar Rahman of Gerimari (near DRDA office) here on Tuesday afternoon. The Mangaldai Police acting on an FIR lodged by a girl arrested the quack and recovered one press identity card, one live ammunition, 3 PAN Cards separately in his name, three voter photo identity card issued in his name in three different places, 7 pass books of banks, 7 ATM cards and a large number of taweez from his possession.

Significantly, one character certificate issued by a Superintendent of Police in 2004, one certificate issued by a Major of Indian Army and a life member certificate of Axam Xahitya Xabha has also been recovered from his possession. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rosy Talukdar and Officer in Charge of Mangaldai Police Station Inspector Mukut Kakati led the search operation and his arrest. He has been arrested in connection with Mangaldai PS Case No. 344/2023 under section 120(B)/354(A)/354(B)/366/508 of IPC with added section 384/511 of IPC.

According to the complaint, one Uday Kashyap following his failure to make a relation with a young girl asked the arrested Muktar Rahman alias Mukut Dewan to perform black magic on her and accordingly Mukut Dewan tried to put pressure on the mother of the girl to marry her with Uday. Uday Kashyap has also allegedly been causing mental harassment on the girl using objectionable language. The police has already arrested Uday Kashyap and forwarded him to judicial custody.

It has also been alleged that the arrested quack Muktar Rahman originally of Hazo area in Kamrup district opened up a chamber here to treat patients using black magic. He even dared to fix a display of signboard on the boundary wall of the official residence of the District Commissioner of Darrang which was removed this afternoon.
