GUWAHATI: On Saturday, the railway gate at the Guwahati Kamakhya Railway Station collapsed. The event happened at the railway crossings at Maligaon Chariali, and Gaushala.
Sources claim that after the incident, there was a lot of traffic jam at the location. No pedestrians were hurt in the event, though.
The residents have claimed that the mishap occurred due to the incompetence of the railroad administration.
One of the workers who came to mend the gate responded when asked what had happened there by saying that a van had crashed with the rail gate, causing it to break and fall.
The absence of a rail gate at the railway crossing in Assam's Golaghat district resulted in the death of a dump truck driver last November.
According to sources, the southbound Avadh Assam Express struck the dump truck at Tamuly hamlet in Borpathar while it was crossing an open railway track carrying sand with the registration number AS03 BC 2565 and no rail gate.
The truck was headed to Jamuguri, and the accident caused the driver to pass away immediately. The deceased's identification has not yet been determined. The dumper is reported to be from Dergaon.
A road accident that happened at Teok under Assam's Jorhat district on Saturday injured at least 22 female tea workers. The injuries, according to sources, were caused when the car carrying the tea workers lost control and tipped over on the side of the road.
The incident was reported near Meleng Tea Estate in Teok. The tragedy happened as tea workers were being brought to the estate for their regular duties. After the episode, Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) received a rush of injured women for treatment.
The Sonitpur area of Assam experienced a serious traffic accident last month that claimed the lives of at least five people. When the car they were riding in lost control and crashed into a roadside ditch in Balipara.
