KOKRAJHAR: Speculation is rife after five senior BJP leaders of Kokrajhar and Chirang districts joined the BPF on November 14 in Kokrajhar. Five BJP leaders and a Congress leader joined the BPF at its office in Kokrajhar on Tuesday. The five BJP leaders are Raj Kumar Brahma, ex-president of Kokrajhar district BJP; Biplob Devnath, an executive member of the state BJP; Swapan Marandi, secretary of Chirang district BJP; Bijay Krishna Saha, president of Linguistic Minority Cell of Chirang district BJP; and Nabaranjan Barman, secretary of Kokrajhar district BJP Yuva Marcha. Chandan Tarapdar, the chairman of the Grievance Department of Chirang District APCC, also joined the BPF.

Speaking to the media after joining the BPF, ex-president of Kokrajhar district BJP Raj Kumar Brahma said he was with the BPF earlier, and today he came back to them. He said many BJP leaders and workers from districts and blocks have lined up to join the BPF in the days to come. He alleged that there was no discipline or democracy in the BJP. “My term as president of the Kokrajhar district BJP was about to end after four months, but before that, I was removed from the post of district president recently without significant reasons,” he said.

He added that there could be some conspiracy being hatched by selfish lobbies in the party against him, as he was straight-forward and uncompromising for the interests of the party. He said that he was very impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s outlook and policies for a vibrant Bharat, who deserved credence for the restoration of peace in the BTAD. “However, in Kokrajhar, only a lobby has been working for someone’s selfish interests. I don’t know why I was removed as district president of the BJP. There is no democracy or discipline in the party. Senior workers are not getting due respect,” he said, adding that he had worked with great devotion for the BJP from the core of his heart.

Brahma said that BTC EM Arup Kr. Dey was playing lobby politics and trying to take power in his hands with money. He said he believed in the constitution of the party but not power by money, as Dey is playing. He also said he worked hard to strengthen the base of the BJP in the district. He further said he was against Speaker Biswajit Daimary’s inner plan to become CEM of the BTC from the BJP after the next BTC election.

Brahma alleged that the UPPL-led BTC government had miserably failed to give tenders to local contractors and local people for development schemes, construction works, and material supply, but these tenders are being given to contractors or suppliers outside the BTAD.
