Assam: Rampad Jamatia Honored With Prestigious Krishnachandra Gandhi Award

HAFLONG: Purvottar Janajati Shiksha Samiti, an affiliated organisation of Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan organised its Krishnachandra Gandhi Award ceremony in Haflong on Monday. This award has been given by the committee every year since 2007 to the person who has done inspirational work for tribal education.

This year, Tripura's social activist Rampad Jamatia was chosen for this award. Jamatia, formerly the Minister for Tribes in the Tripura government, is currently the MLA from Baghmara and has donated land to establish many schools. Due to his special efforts, 13 Goriya Academy schools have been established in different districts of Tripura.

Minister of Skill Development and Employment, Entrepreneurship and Tourism and Public Health Engineering of the Government of Assam, Jayanta Malla Baruah was present as the chief guest in the ceremony. Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council was present as a distinguished guest and Dr Lalit Bihari Goswami, President of Vidya Bharati Sanskriti Shiksha Sansthan, Kurukshetra, was present as the chief speaker.

Padmashree Ramkuiwangbe Jamie also graced the occasion with his presence at the ceremony. As a mark of respect, Rampad Jamatia was given a Jamie Naga Shawl, Dimasa Gamchha, Sarai, memento and a cheque of Rupees one lakh. Highlighting the efforts of Krishnachandra Gandhi, Dr. Pawan Tiwari, the organizing secretary of Vidya Bharti Purvottar Kshetra said that Gandhiji dedicated most of his life to the upliftment of education in the tribal area and started schools under Saraswati Shishu Mandir Yojana in the entire country including the establishment of Saraswati Vidya Mandir Haflong.

As of 2023, this award has been given to 17 great personalities by the Purvottar Janajati Shiksha Samiti. The Krishnachandra Gandhi Award given by the Samiti is the highest honour for a social worker by the organisation.
