GUWAHATI: Assam has been recognised in the Leader Category in developing a startup ecosystem In States' Startup Ranking 2021.
This was disclosed by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, while attending an event organized at NEDFi House in the city to celebrate Assam's start-up ecosystem, on Wednesday. He also praised start-up accelerator Gruhas ASPIRE for selecting 7 outstanding proptech start-ups.
CM Sarma tweeted, "Attended an event organised to celebrate Assam's start-up ecosystem at NEDFi House, Guwahati. Happy to note that 7 outstanding proptech start-ups have been selected by Gruhas ASPIRE, a start-up accelerator focussed on high potential proptech startups in India."
Gruhas ASPIRE is a partnership between Gruhas Proptech Fund, DLF Family Office, and Anthill Ventures. The accelerator primarily chose startups from four key streams; construction management, property and asset management, new materials and technologies, and investments and financing, for the cohort.
The CM again took to Twitter to say, "Congratulations selected proptech start-ups Zerund, Modcave, http://Realiti.io, Safearth, Settl, SustVest & Tellus Habitat. Appreciate Gruhas ASPIRE for its initiative.. In States' Startup Ranking 2021, Assam was recognised Leader Category in developing a startup ecosystem."
For being recognised as a Leader in developing a strong startup ecosystem in the State, Assam has been evaluated across seven Reform Areas that have a significant contribution towards propelling the startup ecosystem in the State. The State has shown remarkable performance through 'Capacity Building of Enablers' and 'Mentorship Support'. The range of impact generated through 'Institutional support' and 'Incubation Support' is also commendable. Assam is also recognised as a Mentorship Champion in the States' Startup Ranking 2021 report.
In another tweet, the Assam CM stated, "Incubated startups from both cohorts impacted around 3.4 lakh lives & provided direct employment opportunities to 260, while 76 startups from both cohorts generated Rs 42.6 cr revenue (FY 20-21) & 54 incubated startups from 3 cohorts raised cumulative external funding of Rs 30 cr."
The Government of Assam has taken several initiatives for start- ups in the state. Some of which include: facilitating the launch of The Nest – a state-of-the-art incubator to nurture entrepreneurship; providing incentives and financial assistance to women entrepreneurs; conducting a high number of outreach programs with academia, investors and other key ecosystem players; building a large mentorship network for startups.
The Assam Startup policy focuses on generating employment, nurturing startups in the initial stage, and stimulating startup culture in the State
On the other hand, proptech accelerator Gruhas ASPIRE (Accelerating Sustainable Proptech in Real Estate) announced on August 26 that it has selected seven startups as part of its maiden cohort.
Under the initiative, the selected startups will be provided with mentorship on a range of domains including market expansion, business model refinement, hiring, branding and marketing.
Startups in Gruhas ASPIRE's first cohort includes Modcave, which manufactures prefabricated temporary shelters, real-estate collaborative tool Realiti.io, fully integrated platform for solar projects Safearth, data-driven co-living platform Settl, sustainability-focused fintech platform SusteVest, Tellus Habitat, which offers decentralised wastewater treatment machines, and sustainable bricks seller Zerund.
