Guwahati: On Tuesday, in a meeting held by the Assam Cabinet, it was decided that the government will have to impose restrictions in the state if the rate of COVID-19 cases does not decrease in the next 3 to 4 days.
This information was shared by the Health Minister of Assam, Keshab Mahanta, who is also the spokesperson for the Assam Cabinet.
As per reports, the number of COVID-19 cases in the states right before Durga Puja in the state was around 250. However, the number of cases had shot up to nearly 300 cases on Tuesday after the Durga Puja celebrations.
The last time the number of COVID-19 cases crossed the 300 mark before Durga Puja was on October 8 when Assam had recorded 318 cases.
After the Durga Puja celebrations, 205 cases were reported on October 17 while 298 cases were reported on October 18.
However, on October 19, the number of COVID-19 cases went up to 353, with 152 cases recorded in Kamrup (M). Meanwhile, zero deaths were reported on the same day.
The overall positivity percentage on Tuesday was 0.89%, while the recovery rate was recorded to be 98.43%.
This has taken the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Assam to 6,06,766.
