Guwahati: This year, the Assam Government has imposed strict protocols and guidelines during the Durga Puja celebrations as a measure against the spread of coronavirus. Meanwhile, over 500 road accidents were recorded in Assam during the festivities season.
In a report issued by the state emergency services, a total of 541 road accidents were reported in Assam.
A total of 49 road accidents were reported in Kamrup Rural while 48 road accidents were reported in the Golaghat district. The districts of Sonitpur and Tinsukia both reported a total of 32 accidents.
In the last 5 days of the festivities season, 8 road accidents were reported in Kamrup metro.
On October 14, the day of Navami, 137 road accidents were reported making it the highest number compared to other days.
In a report issued by the emergency services, the data gives an idea about the number of accidents that took place between October 11 and 15.
Upon being asked if there was a rise in accident cases this Puja season, he answered, "Last year there were no Durga Puja celebrations so there were no major accidents as such. In normal days, we cater to about 70 to 80 accidents per day but these days it has gone up to hundred on some days."
