Guwahati: A series of blasts had rocked several parts of Assam 12 years back on this day – October 30. The nine blasts that ripped through Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Barpeta Road and Bongaigaon had killed over 88 people and injured 500. The day is now marked as Black day in the history of Assam.

The three blasts in Guwahati at Ganeshguri, Kachari and Panbazar claimed as many as 53 lives.

National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB - R) chief Ranjan Daimary was the mastermind behind the blasts. He was sentenced to life in prison by a CBI court last year.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid tributes to those who lost their lives in the ghastly incident at a solemn event organised in the city today.

The Lawyers' Association, Guwahati and the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration also organised a shradhanjali programme (memorial service) to pay homage to the departed souls.

Cars were packed with RDX and ammonium nitrate to cause the blasts which left a vast trail of death and destruction.
