"Very sad to inform that 2 more #COVID19 + patients Sri Prosnna Kumar Haloi (70) of Beltola, Guwahati and Sri Ramsingh Hanse (56) of Karbianglong admitted in GMCH Covid ICU succumbed to their critical infections this morning. Both were on invasive ventilation. My condolences", Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in a tweet.

These deaths have been reported a day after the state reported its maximum number of deaths within 24 hours. Yesterday, as many as 6 COVID-19 related deaths were reported from hospitals across the state, raising the number of casualties to 22.

With 696 more COVID-19 cases detected on Wednesday, the tally of cases in Assam rose to 14,031, Somewhat alarmingly, 423 of these fresh cases were detected in Guwahati city alone, which is quickly turning into a COVID-19 hotspot in the eastern region of India.

Sarma who informed about the updated numbers through a tweet, stated that "people are expected to follow precautions strictly."
