Assam: Residents of Biswanath Continue to be Plagued by Robbers

BISWANATH: The number of thefts and robberies have become a regular incident in the Biswanath district of the state. Despite the mentioning by the police department that the necessary action has been initiated by the authorities, there has been no respite for the people from these incidents.

The local people of the district have questioned the ability of the Biswanath Police to handle the situation and demanded that they take ample steps to ensure the protection of the people. They also mentioned that the robbers often commit crimes when people leave their homes to attend to their daily affairs like schools and offices or late at night when everyone is sleeping.

Another incident of robbery took place in the district where the robbers took benefit of no one being at home and robbed the place of all its belongings with monetary value. A rented accommodation in the Kochgoan locality of Biswanath. It was informed that the robbers broke the lock and entered the premises of the residence and robbed the belongings inside the house. Valuables including jewellery worth Rs 200000 and Rs 15000 in cash.

Rupam Hazarika and his family who reside in the accommodation had visited Bongaigaon and the robbers utilised this opportunity to sack the valuables belonging to the family. The victims came to know about the incident only when the family returned, the cam to see the aftermath of the robbery.

The victims lodged a complaint regarding the incident with the Biswanath Chariali Sadar Police Station.

It can be noted that on the same day, another family in the same village was targeted by the robbers, but they were unable to enter the house even after breaking down the door because of the presence of their pet dog. The local people also mentioned that these incidents have become like a daily routine in the region in the absence of any proper action from the Biswanath police.
