Assam: Residents of Biswanath Raise Questions Regarding the Road Safety

BISWANATH: The local people of Biswanath have alleged that the ongoing construction of the four-lane highway has put the entire region at risk of accidents. The project is being constructed by TK Engineering and Consortium for the National Highways & Infrastructure Corporation.

They mentioned that construction has now reached the final stages and the crossing point of the highway and the busy Pabhoi road was being constructed. The presence of the railway station, many educational institutions, tea gardens and villages lead to the heavy load on this crossing.

It was suggested by the local people to the district administration, and via them to the competent authorities to create a rotary of any other infrastructure to prevent accidents at the intersection. But the construction firm paid no heed to this request. The local people also mentioned that this intersection was completed overnight ahead of the chief minister’s visit on June 22 without any of the safety measures. The local people along with several organisations raised their voices in protest of this development, but no action has been taken yet.

Although the construction of the four-lane highways has not been completed yet vehicles moving at very high speeds have already started creating problems for people at this intersection. And the people have requested the competent authorities to take the necessary action regarding this problem before anyone is injured.

In another part of the state, an accident that took place on National Highway number 27 led to the serious injury of one person. He was hit by a speeding vehicle while trying to cross the national highway. The incident took place in Moranjan near Rangiya of Assam on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Mahabali Rajgarh belonging to Kauli in Tamulpur. According to the bystanders, the victim was hit by a red-coloured Mahindra XUV 300 while he was trying to cross the road. As a result, he received severe injuries and lay helpless on the national highway. The vehicle reportedly fled in the direction towards Nalbari soon after hitting the victim.
