SILCHAR: Assam Rifles observes International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Saturday by carrying out an awareness campaign among people, particularly youths, in the interior areas of the Assam-Manipur border. This dive assumes significance due to the growing incidence of drug abuse and illegal trafficking by young persons.
The campaign has been carried out by Kadamtala Battalion under the aegis of 21 Sector Assam Rifles and Inspector General Assam Rifles (East). At select places, the youths were asked to stand and the jawans with handy microphones explained to them the ill effects of drug addiction. It was made clear to them if such habits are not shunned, they will gradually and systematically affect their vital organs like lungs, kidney, heart, and brain and turn them into mere skeleton and ruin their life. The awareness campaign touched upon the societal problems, a fall out of the addiction. The focus was also on solutions for addicts to come out of it and resettle life with a positive attitude. Assam Rifles' concern for problems of civil society and civilians and offering motivation to live healthily has been appreciated in general. The campaign laid stress on educating the youths with the motto of the day, 'Say no to drugs and stay fit.'
