LUMDING: An incident of robbery took place at the residence of former Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly late Devesh Chakrabarty and current Assam Pradesh Congress member, Maya Chakrabarty in Lumding of Assam.
According to the sources, the incident took place at the Lanka Road locality of Lumding in the presence of people in the house. A gang of three to four robbers broke into the house with sharp weapons and they took away several gold ornaments from Maya Chakrabarty’s residence, including her necklace, bangle and rings on her hand. She was also gagged so that she could not shout during the incident.
The government-licensed gun of the former Assam Assembly Speaker was also been taken away by the robbers. In this Incident, Maya Chakrabarty also received superficial injuries. The Lumding police arrived at the scene after the incident and the investigation has been started in this regard.
Previously a similar case was reported on a robbery which took place in the home of the chief of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) of India, Tapan Kumar Deka, in Guwahati, and the police have started an investigation regarding the matter. According to sources, the incident took place on Monday night at the residence of the director, located in the Gopal Krishna Path of Hengrabari in Guwahati, in his absence. The local police learned about the incident only after they received a letter from the director. Dispur Police thereafter deployed three personnel for the security of the residence, and an investigation has been started in this regard.
According to eyewitnesses and neighbours, Deka's residence has been unoccupied for some time. Upon learning about the incident, the Dispur police swiftly responded by deploying three security personnel to protect the cop's residence, following a letter of request from Deka himself. However, the incident has raised concerns among the local community, who claim that such incidents occur frequently in the area. They question the effectiveness of police patrolling and express dissatisfaction with the authority's inability to prevent such crimes.
