Assam: Robbers Hold Woman Hostage and Loot Valuables Worth Rs 3 Lakhs

MANGALDAI: In yet another incident raising questions about the law and order situation in the state, the robbers threatened a woman with a knife and looted valuables from her home. The incident took place in broad daylight on Tuesday in the Mangaldai town of Assam.

In the first half of Tuesday, a shocking incident took place in the heart of Mangaldai town. Two robbers entered the residence of one Murari Lal Pradhan, located next to the popular SRD Fine Dining eatery. Only a woman and her daughter were at home at the time when the robbers came in. The robbers held them hostage with knives and looted their jewellery including the rings, chains and bangles.

The family members who later arrived at their residence after the robbers left, mentioned that the robbers may have used some narcotics before threatening the woman. They also mentioned that the jewellery worth around Rs 3 lakhs were robbed. The victims lodged a complaint with the local police. A team from the police station also visited the location and collected the footage captured by the close circuit cameras located nearby to identify the robbers.

It can be noted that the location of the robbery is less than 500 metres from the nearest police station. So the local people raised questions as to how the robbers could carry out the operation that too in broad daylight.

Previously, robbers sacked the valuables from a Durga Puja celebration after the festival concluded. The incident took place a day after Dashami, that is on Wednesday in the Pandal of the Uttar Mangaldai Sarbojanin Durga Puja Mandap. Two miscreants robbed several valuable items from the premises on which the puja was celebrated. They stole several pieces of valuable equipment and utensils made from the premises including those made from Brass and Bell Metal.
