Assam: ‘Saffronized’ Silchar gears up for Ram Mandir inauguration

Silchar: Silchar is getting ‘saffronized’ as the time is inching closer towards January 22, the day, when Ram Mandir at Ayodhya will be ceremonially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The south Assam city was the centre stage of saffron uprising in the early 90s that had spread all over the State in following decades. Continuing this legacy of Hindutva politics, the BJP here had chalked up a massive programme for the ‘Pran Pratistha of Ramlalla’ on Monday. A series of programme, meticulously monitored by the local MLA Dipayan Chakrabarty, had already begun with adorning the streets with saffron flags and festoons as well as decked up with illuminating lighting all over the city. Leading cultural organisations like “Rupam” and NGOs like “Thousand Sayantans” had volunteered the programmes taken up by the BJP MLA. Chakrabarty said, “The inauguration of Ram Mandir will end the 500 years of slavery to foreign invaders and will herald the age of Hindu Rashtra or Ram Rajya. Hundreds had sacrificed their lives in the past to re-establish the glory of the Hindus that had been trampled by the invaders, and the inauguration of Ram mandir will be befitting tribute to them.”

Chakrabarty said, the three day programme would begin from Friday with cleanliness drives at various temples. On Saturday evening, a mega rally with tableaus depicting the life of Lord Ram would be brought out from the DSA stadium. Manoj Pandit of Guwahati and Disha Barua of Dibrugarh would present Ram bhajan and Kirtan. Giant television screens would be placed in various parts of the city so that people could see the live telecast of the inaugural function, Dipayan elaborated. He further informed that altogether 22 cultural organisations, NGOs and clubs would join hands to make the three day long programme a grand success.

Meanwhile, roadside vendors are also doing a good business as flags, stand flags, saffron scarves, stickers of Lord Ram are being sold like hot cakes.
