Guwahati: An Assam school girl, Nazia Hassan, has been selected to represent her state in the National Children Science Congress 2018 which is to be held at Bhubaneswar towards the end of the year. Nazia studies in class eight of Adabari ME School, a school based in Dhubri district of Assam.
Nazia got selected out of 287 other participants from 32 districts of Assam who contested in the state level Children’s Science Congress that was held in Majuli district of Assam from October 23 to October 26. Her project stood out to be the best out of all the projects showcased in the competition and this earned her eligibility to participate in the national level science event now.
Of all the projects, only 26 projects have been chosen. The state-level science competition brought out the hidden skills of the students along with also encouraging them to be indulged in science and its innovations. As aimed, the science exhibition could encourage the students to be active participant n the competition.
The winner of the competition, Nazia Hassan states, “In our project on a study related to the different kinds of teeth problems caused due to water consumption faced by our locality, we have asked the people about the water quality and also approached to the concerned Public Health Engineering department for a proper examinations of drinking water quality available in and around the Adabari areas.”
Tasmin Begum, TET Science teacher of Nazia’s school in Dhubri, states how they worked together for achieving the goal. She stated, ‘we selected 70 people for the research but as the time was very short to submit the report to the state-level authority, we have reduced the number of people and fixed at ten people under the supervision of a dentist and achieved the goal’.
The project that Nazia showcased in the state level competition was based on Science Technology and Innovation for a Clean, Green and Healthy Nation. This project made her win the best project presented at the 26th State Level Children’s Science Congress, 2018. The state-level Science Congress was organized by Assam Science Technology and Environment Council.
