Guwahati: Amidst strict regulations from the state government, schools in Guwahati and across the state opened up today. Students from class six onwards would now be able to attend classes in school. But this has not been made mandatory. Students can attend school only if their parents allow to do so.
Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had made the announcement about schools reopening from November 1 earlier last month.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had directed the education department to ensure that the COVID-19 guidelines are strictly followed in the schools.
Students turned up in schools with masks, though social distancing rules are not strictly followed by them.
As per the new directions regarding opening up of schools, classes would be conducted in two batches. The first batch from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm and the second batch from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The batches would have no more than 25 students in each section.
Some schools in Guwahati preferred to remain shut today. They said that they would reopen maybe from next week depending on the COVID situation.
COVID tests have been made mandatory for all teachers and employees of the educational institutes before attending schools.
