DOOMDOOMA: The Assam Science Society (ASS), Doomdooma Branch elected a new Executive Committee for the year 2023-2025 at its general meeting at Doomdooma Natya Mandir on Thursday with president incharge Prabin Mazumdar in the chair. The 15-member executive committee consists of Dr. Meena Devi Baruah as president, Jhikananda Borgohain and Prabin Majumdar as vice-presidents, Dhiren Deka as general secretary, Khanin Phookan and Runumoni Dutta Bhuyan as assistant secretaries and Utpal Pujari as treasurer.

In the beginning secretary Dhiren Deka explained the objectives of the meeting. The meeting was convened in view of the 54th biennial Session of the Assam Science Society to be held from April 30 to May 2 at Duliajan in Dibrugarh district, he said, adding that ASS, Doomdooma branch which had completed the 40th year of its existence since it was established in 1983, took the initiative to form a ‘Women’s Cell’ with 10 women members to raise awareness about science at the grassroots level.

The meeting was also apprised about the sending of the names of the two delegates for the Duliajan session - general secretary Dhiren Deka and the newly-elected president Dr. Meena Devi Baruah.

The vice-presidents Jhikananda Borgohain and Prabin Majumdar suggested organizing popular lectures by appropriate resource persons every two or three months for the benefit of the school students while the newly-elected president Dr. Meena Devi Baruah said that it would be her endeavour to take effective measures to create awareness about science through further activation of the branch. The certificates of the life membership of the Assam Science Society were officially distributed at the meeting. The meeting also decided to hold branch meetings in various schools of the area. After the president’s remarks, secretary Dhiren Deka offered the vote of thanks.
