JAMUGURIHAT: A seminar on ‘NEP 2020: Its successful initiation in Assam’ convened by the teachers unit of Tyagbir Hem Baruah College in association with the Sonitpur zone of Assam College Teachers Association (ACTA) was held recently. The seminar was convened on the occasion of Platinum Jubilee of Assam College Teachers Association and Diamond Jubilee of Tyagbir Hem Baruah College. Participating as the chief guest, Professor Nani Gopal Mahanta, Academic Advisor, government of Assam discussed at length how the NEP 2020 will help in evolution of a knowledge based society, besides acquainting the students with the rich cultural heritage of the country, which has since long been making great impact on the thought and culture of the other Asian countries. He said that the NEP also aims at creating skilled individuals to make the society far more productive and economically vibrant. He also called upon the institutions to revive the ‘Professor of Practice’ system for benefits of the students by harnessing the knowledge, expertise and experience of the individuals excelling in different fields. Previously, deliberating on the issue Padma Hazarika, Sootea MLA said that the NEP must help in making the students economically independent, who can generate employment opportunities for others, besides being self reliant themselves.

Dr Ajit Hazarika, Principal of the college inaugurating the seminar briefed the house regarding the initiatives taken by the college for successful implementation of the NEP in the college and the challenges faced by all the institutions, like lack of adequate number of teachers, infrastructure etc. Former office bearers of the Sonitpur zone of the association were also felicitated on the occasion. The programme, inaugurated with performance of the college anthem, conducted by Nibedita Bharali was presided over by Rajeswar Bodo, President, Sonitpur zone, ACTA. The programme was anchored by Sumanta Rajbanshi, Coordinator, IQAC and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Tulsi Upadhayay, secretary of teachers’ unit.
