Assam: Seminar on trends and issues in quality education

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Nowgong College (Autonomous) in collaboration with National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru, has organized a two-day long national seminar on ‘Trends and issues in quality of higher education in India with special reference to Northeast India’ which started on Thursday and will conclude on Friday.

NAGAON: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Nowgong College (Autonomous) in collaboration with National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru, has organized a two-day long national seminar on ‘Trends and issues in quality of higher education in India with special reference to Northeast India’ which started on Thursday and will conclude on Friday. The seminar has been supported by Canara Bank, Nagaon branch.

Over 150 participants and paper presenters from across the country took part in the seminar. The proceedings of the inaugural session of the seminar were initiated by Dr Bhuban Ch Chutia, coordinator, IQAC and organizing secretary and, principal of the college welcomed the guests and participants.

He explained that higher education institutions are expected to play a central role in resolving the challenges of the 21st century because they are crucial for development of a knowledge-based economy and the advancement of the society as a whole. The recent trends and issues of higher education institutions in India with special reference to Northeast India and the steps adopted by these institutes for quality improvement since this region’s development is impeded by certain inherent difficulties, he added.

Dr Kiran Hazarika, pro-vice chancellor, IGNOU, inaugurated the seminar. Dr Hazarika said that in future, India will be one of the largest education hubs. India’s higher education sector has witnessed a tremendous increase in the number of universities/university level Institutions and colleges since independence. He also highlighted student-centric learning, student induction programme, soft skills for students, use of ICT based tools for effective learning, community engagement, industrial linkages and innovative and local based research topics too.

K Ratnabali, professor, International Law, Energy Law, Human Rights Law & Dean, Academic Affairs, University of Delhi, delivered the keynote address. Prof Ratnabali said that the education system in India is undergoing transformational changes through the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020. As per the policy, the aim of higher education is to provide holistic and multidisciplinary education with 21st century skills and promote critical thinking, problem solving, research and innovation.
