GOALPARA: The Goalpara police has successfully arrested seven miscreants in connection with a theft and loot case at the Solmari Kali Mandir of Agia in Goalpara district which was carried out on Saturday night. The arrested miscreants were identified as Mominur Islam and Mujibur Rahman of South Salmara Mankachar district and Abdul Matin, Habil Khandkar, Abu Taleb, Mujibur Rahman and Ibrahim Ali of Goalpara district.

The roadside temple is situated within a kilometre of Solmari Tiniali bus stand and about seven kilometers from the Goalpara town and thronged by people all over the year. The gang of thieves had chosen the midnight time for the looting of the valuable ornaments decorated over the idols worth several lakhs.

However, the act of crime was recorded in the CCTV installed in the temple. “A team under the supervision of SP, Goalpara VV Rakesh Reddy and active cooperation from the Agia police station have arrested seven accused from Goalpara and South Salmara Mankachar districts involved in the case. The team has also recovered from the Patakata village of the South Salmara Mankachar district, ninety percent of the valuable ornaments stolen from the temple,” informed Khargeswar Rabha headquarter DSP.

“Among the thieves, the kingpin Mujibor Rahman has several cases registered in his name in the different police stations of Lower Assam,” Rabha added. The police has also seized a Mahindra Bolero vehicle used in carrying out the act.

People have congratulated the Goalpara police team at the early stage success of the crime. Mention may be made that the Goalpara police in a similar recent case of Dolgoma Xatra had successfully arrested the involved criminals.
