SILCHAR: The Union government had already released Rs 10 crore for the construction of rail track between Mahishasan in Karimganj to Shahbazpur in Bangladesh and the work in the Indian side was going on in full swing, stated Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy. He however informed that the work in other part side of the fence was yet to start as the Bangladesh government had not yet invested in the project. Sheikh Hasina government was keen to resolve some issues related to this project, which once complete, would usher in a chapter in the communication sector between Assam and Bangladesh, Dr Roy added.
The second episode of the Silchar Sylhet festival was recently held in Sylhet. Dr Rajdeep Roy who initiated this festival under the aegis of India Foundation, however, could not attend the programme in Sylhet due to some personal problems. After reaching Silchar, he exchanged views with the delegates who attended the Festival in Sylhet.
Silchar Sylhet Festival was conceptualized with the vision to further trade and cultural exchanges between the Barak Valley and Sylhet. Speaking with the delegates, Dr Roy said, he had approached Shahjalal University of Sylhet to initiate a Chair in the name of freedom fighter Bipin Chandra Paul and similarly a Chair after the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Assam University. However Delhi University had already started a Chair after the name of the Father of Bangladesh, he added.
