Guwahati: Simanta Sekhar, the Assam crooner who sang the catchy BJP campaign song 'Akou Ebar Modi Sarkar' (Once Again, Modi's Government) in the lead up to the 2019 General Elections in the state, today became an official member of the saffron brigade.

Renowned flutist Dipak Sharma, who is known for his soulful melodies across Assam and beyond, also donned saffron robes today at a grand event today in the party's region office in Guwahati, which saw a total of 27 Assam artistes join the ruling BJP party ahead of the crucial 2021 polls in the state.

Assam state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass welcomed the newly-joined members to the saffron party.

"Yes, there will be BJP government again," said Simanta Shekhar, in a throwback reference to his hit song that came out amid massive unrest over the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act, leading some to question Shekhar's seemingly unwavering support for the BJP.

Reba Phukan, Pranjana Dutta, Kabindra Das, Pankaj Ingti, Bijoy Kashyap, and Priyanka Kalita are some of the other noted personalities from the state who owed their allegiance to the saffron alliance today.

Dipak Sarma, meanwhile, has said that he has joined the BJP because he "loves" the party. The artist stated that he will continue playing his flute in spite of joining politics officially.

Earlier in the month, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) buoyed its ranks with the joining of several high-profile celebrities such as the renowned actress Asha Bordoloi and noted crooner Vidya Sagar.

Prior to this, 'Ratnakar' actor Jatin Bora had reaffirmed his commitment towards upholding the diktat of the BJP party, months after quitting the saffron brigade over the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

While announcing this at a press conference, Bora also expressed regret over leaving the party in the first place and said that the anti-CAA andolan was an attempt to "mislead the people" by anti-BJP forces.
