Assam: Skill upgrade training on diversified jute products held

BISWANATH CHARIALI: NABARD, the development bank of the nation, is the pioneer in the Self Help Groups (SHG) movement in the country since 1992. For a long time NABARD has also engaged in capacity building of the SHG members to support them in income generation. Continuing the trend, the Regional Office of the NABARD, Assam sanctioned one LEDP skill training programme on jute product units to be implemented by CADAT, NGO in Kumalia GP under Biswanath Development Block in Biswanath district. The programme aims to train 90 SHG members over a period of 20 days. The programme also aims to support the aggressive members in setting up micro enterprises, on jute value added products through credit linkage.

The training programme was inaugurated on November 23 in the presence of Kumalia GP president Mofida Khatun, Rajib Suren, BPM, ASRLM, Biswanath Block and Bormafi Gogoi, Block coordinator. During the ceremony, Suman Chatterjee, DDM, NABARD, Sonitpur and Biswanath highlighted the need of setting up micro enterprise by the SHG members in order to achieve sustainable socio-economic development and women empowerment along with role and also the functions of NABARD. He assured to provide all the necessary cooperation for bringing up a constructive way on sustainable income generating activity.

Saytandra Hazarika, Biswanath Zila Parishad Member was present as the chief guest in the event. He appreciated the role of NABARD as well as CADAT officials for taking up such initiatives in the rural areas. Jagadish Sarmah, master trainer and designer, highlighted the value-added product demands in the market for income generating activity, along with steps for acquiring skill through the technical training. Monoranjan Hazarika, secretary of CADAT, pointed out the programme objective while chairman Dhiren Deka offered vote of thanks.

CADAT has been implementing some major programmes for the uplift of the rural poor people through SHGs in the district of Biswanath in collaboration with NABARD, along with tribal development initiative for the last couple of years.
