Assam: Special Court Sentences Three To Death In Abhayakhuti Rape And Murder Case

Guwahati: A special court in Kokrahjar district on Friday sentenced three convicted persons to death for the rape and murder of two sisters in Abhayakhuti village of the district.

Prior to pronouncing punishment, the special court on Wednesday convicted the trio identified as Parijul Rahman, Nasibul Ali Sheik, and Mozammel Sheik.

Following the incident, the family members of the victims had lodged an FIR with the Kokrajhar police station.

As soon as the incident came into the public domain, several organizations, including students unions and other social organizations demanded a high-level investigation and strict punishment against the accused.

It may be mentioned here that two minor girls Abhayakhuti were raped and later mentioned murdered by perpetrators in Kokrajhar on 11th June 2021.

The bodies of the two girls were found hanging from a tree in a nearby jungle at Abhayakhuti.
