After long 33 days, stalemate over the BJP-led Hailakandi Municipality Board ended on Thursday as the dissident group of Ward Commissioners finally withdrew the no confidence motion against the chairman Kalyan Goswami.

SILCHAR: After long 33 days, stalemate over the BJP-led Hailakandi Municipality Board ended on Thursday as the dissident group of Ward Commissioners finally withdrew the no confidence motion against the chairman Kalyan Goswami. However the curtains dropped on the crisis drama following the intervention of the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who had reportedly had a telephonic conversation with some of the dissidents where he made it clear that in no case, the party would replace the municipality chairman prior to the ensuing Lok Sabha election. Even the demand for the post of vice chairman raised by the dissidents would not be entertained at this juncture, the Chief Minister had reportedly made it clear. On Wednesday, six out of eight dissident BJP Ward Commissioners withdrew their respective no confidence motion. Earlier on Tuesday Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai started parleying with the dissidents and arrangement telephonic conversation with the Chief Minister, state president Bhabesh Kalita, Hailakandi’s guardian Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and Minister Pijush Hazarika.

Meanwhile, one of the dissidents Shampa Sengupta suddenly passed away following a cardiac arrest on Wednesday.
