GUWAHATI: In a relentless effort to combat the circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), the Special Task Force (STF) in Assam achieved a significant breakthrough. Operating under the directives of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) STF Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the STF executed a meticulously planned operation in the Krishnai area of Goalpara district. During the operation, law enforcement intercepted an ALTO car bearing the registration number AS18 F 6863. This move led to the confiscation of a staggering sum of ₹14.50 lakh in counterfeit currency notes, all of which were in the denomination of ₹500.

This major achievement was further underscored by the apprehension of three individuals suspected to be involved in the illegal currency operation. The arrested individuals were identified as Anowar Hussain, Rafiq Ahmed, and Growel Marak. The STF's proactive operation targeted the issue of FICN, a problem that undermines the economic and financial integrity of the region.

An official from the STF provided insight into the operation, stating that it was conducted within the jurisdiction of Krishnai Police Station. The operation's successful outcome was attributed to the close supervision of DIG Partha Sarathi Mahanta. The seizure not only encompassed the counterfeit currency but also included the impoundment of an Alto car, three mobile phones presumed to be linked to the illicit activity.

An STF officer said, “STF Assam carried out an operation in an area under the jurisdiction of Krishnai Police Station against FICN under the supervision of DIG Partha Sarathi Mahanta. The operation resulted in the seizure of an Alto car and the recovery of Rs. 14.50 lakh fakes notes and three mobile phones. Three persons were also arrested in connection with seizure.”

The STF representative outlined that subsequent to the seizure, a comprehensive legal process would follow. A case is scheduled to be registered, marking the initiation of a detailed investigation into the matter. The entire operation reinforces the commitment of Assam's STF to root out the FICN menace, contributing to the maintenance of the region's financial security.

In a region often plagued by such counterfeit currency operations, this STF initiative serves as a crucial step in safeguarding the legitimate financial systems and the trust of the people. The successful operation, with its consequential arrests and seizure, stands as a testament to the STF's dedication and strategic acumen in tackling complex financial crimes. The seizure of ₹14.50 lakh in fake notes sends a stern warning to counterfeiters while also demonstrating the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensure the integrity of the nation's currency.
