Assam: Successful Police Raid in Hojai District Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling

GUWAHATI: In a recent operation targeting illegal gambling activities, the law enforcement authorities in Assam's Hojai district achieved a significant breakthrough. On a Thursday, the police conducted a well-executed raid in the town of Lanka, resulting in the successful apprehension of three individuals who were deeply involved in the illicit gambling operation.

The three apprehended gamblers have been identified as Syedullah, Nehar Ali, and Moizul Islam. During the operation, law enforcement officers seized three mobile phones and a collection of gambling cards from the trio, providing concrete proof of their involvement in illegal gambling activities.

According to preliminary information received, a team of Jorhat police initiated a targeted operation at room number 205 of the 'Indira Lodge' hotel. This operation resulted in the apprehension of ten individuals directly linked to the gambling case. The swift and coordinated action taken by the police ensured that the suspects had little opportunity to evade arrest.

In addition to the arrests, the police also seized incriminating materials from the possession of the suspects. These materials included playing cards (Tash Patti), ten mobile phones, and a substantial amount of Rs 15,600 in cash. These seized items serve as crucial evidence of the illegal gambling activities that were taking place in the hotel room.
