LAKHIMPUR: Music maestro, Bharat Ratna, Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was commemorated across Lakhimpur district on Sunday in connection with his death anniversary. The Lakhimpur district unit of Sanskritik Mahaasabha paid rich tributes to the globally acclaimed artiste by organizing a commemorative programme titled as ‘Sangeet Divas’ in association with Konwar Gaon Sangeet Mahavidyalay. Social worker Dr. Chandan Kumar Phukan inaugurated the tribute paying event. In this connection, Bhupen Hazarika’s famous lyric “Manuhe Manuhor Babe...” was performed in chorus. It was followed by a Bhupendra Sangeet competition among the students from secondary level to graduate level, which was held with artiste Prasanna Sarmah in the chair.

DEMOW: Under the patronage of Demow Press Club, Dr.Bhupen Hazarika (Sudhakantha Divas) was organized in Demow Jyoti-Bishnu Cultural Building (Demow Public Hall) on Saturday and Sunday. The programme started with flag hoisting by Umesh Chetia, president of Demow Press Club. After that an All Assam Basis Bhupendra Sangeet Competition was organized on Saturday which was inaugurated by Hamida Begum, Assistant Professor of Sociology Department in Demow College. The All Assam Basis Bhupendra Sangeet Competition was organized in two categories. In Lower category- Debolina Deori won the first prize, Prantika Priyam Sarma won the second prize and Aslesha Sensua won the third prize. In Higher category- Lakhipriya Dehingia won the first prize, Kaberi Phukan won the second prize and Irin Gogoi won the third prize.
