Assam: Suspected Cattle Smugglers Abandon Truck Cattle Laden Truck

JAMUGURIHAT: Illegal cattle smuggling continues unabated in the state of Assam. This was proved again on Friday when an abandoned truck with several cattle onboard was recovered by the state police.

The incident took place on the night of Friday when local people found a truck mysteriously parked on the roadside in Jamugurihad of Sonitpur district of Assam. They informed the local police regarding the incident, in suspicion of a smuggling attempt. The vehicle had a registration number of AS 28 AC 0450.

Upon arrival, the police found that a total of 18 cattle heads were inside the truck and the owner of the vehicle was Amir Hussain. They also found that the vehicle did not have anyone else in it. The police has suspected that the cattle were on their way to be sold in one of the neighbouring states, but they received information regarding the presence of the police parties. So the cattle smugglers abandoned their vehicle and fled by themselves.

Meanwhile, the police informed that they had started investigating the matter and that they were trying to track down the owner of the vehicle as well as other people involved in the incident.

Previously the leaders of Demow Regional Students’ Union seized a truck in Demow Chariali at NH-37 Road on Friday evening which was illegally carrying cattle. The truck was handed over to Demow Police. According to sources, a truck (NL 01AE 7804) coming from Demow Dehajan was laden with 40 cattle. After getting information, the leaders of Demow Regional Students’ Union stopped the truck in Demow Chariali. The driver tried to hide the fact that there were cattle in the truck. When the student union activists saw the cattle, they handed over the truck to Demow Police. Investigation is on regarding the incident.
