Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA) demands wage hike for tea labourers

Joysagar: The Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA) submitted a memorandum to State Labour Minister Pallav Lochan Das on Saturday during the minister’s visit to the Mekipur Tea Estate of Nazira subdivision in Sivasagar district. The tea tribe organization demanded solution to various problems and also drew the attention of the Labour Minister to the long-pending wage hike demand of the tea garden labourers from the present rate to Rs 350 daily.

Besides, the organization also demanded provincialization of Mekipur ME School, construction of Nazira-Mekipur road and Mekipur-Bihubar road, proper drinking water supply and electricity connection in each house, improvement in tea garden health services and job facilities as well as other self-help opportunities to educated youths belonging to the tea tribe. The minister also visited Mathurapur Tea Estate, Gelakey TE and Bihubar TE where he campaigned for the upcoming panchayat polls. He appealed to the tea tribe voters to cast their votes in favour of the BJP for stable and corruption-free governance in their areas. He assured that the vital problems faced by the tea tribe community of the State would be addressed by the BJP-led government.
