RAHA: A joint operation between the Chaparmukh Police and the Kampur Police has led to the attest of three alleged narcotics peddlers from the Kakatigaon locality of Chaparmukh on the night of Thursday. The team was also able to seize a good amount of narcotics hidden in soap cases by the suspects.
The Superintendent of Police for the Nagaon District, Navaneet Mahanta shared the details of the operation with the media. He said, “On getting a tip-off about five drug paddlers heading towards Raha from Kampur through Chaparmukh on two-wheelers, a trap was laid jointly by Chaparmukh and Kampur police. On spotting the criminals coming at the Kakatigaon area under Kampur police station near Chaparmukh, the police team tried to stop them but they attempted to flee. The police team then opened fire to nab them. Unfortunately, two drug peddlers managed to flee taking advantage of darkness and police caught three drug peddlers and recovered 20 soap cases of heroin from their possession."
The police officials also claimed to have seized one Bujaj Pulsar motorcycle and a Scooty used by the drug peddlers for transporting the consignment. The accused peddlers were identified as Abdul Salam, Hanif Ali and Amzat Ali belonging to the Kachua, Dablu and Dighaliati localities of the Chaparmukh region.
Assam Police also seized a large quantity of cannabis and apprehended six persons in Karimganj district on Thursday. According to the Karimganj district police, in an anti-drugs operation, a team from Nilambazar police station seized 33.5 kg of cannabis at Nilambazar station road in Karimganj district. Police also apprehended six accused. Earlier on July Wednesday, Karimganj police seized 1 lakh pieces of YABA tablets weighing 10.5 kg and apprehended 3 accused. This is another incident wherein the Assam Police has been able to stop narcotics peddlers.
