GUWAHATI: According to a police official, Assam Police detained three former All Assam Students' Union (AASU) members early on February 28 in relation to a physical assault case in the Baksa district of the state.

Ankur Sharma, Bhavesh Sharma, and Hirakjyoti Sharma are the members that were apprehended by police on Tuesday.

According to the authorities, the group physically abused a teen at the AASU office in Goreswar's Naokata neighbourhood, forcing him to take drastic measures like committing suicide. The suspected leaders fled the scene of the crime for a while after committing it, but they were later apprehended by authorities and imprisoned.

“A youngster was physically abused by members in the month of July 2022 at the Naokata AASU Office after they suspected him of stealing. The child killed himself because he was unable to cope with the abuse”  the police officer said in a statement to the media about the incident. "We have filed a lawsuit and are looking into the matter in this regard," he added.

In the police training centre in Dergaon, a shocking incident allegedly involved a male policeman raping a female recruit. An unidentified female police trainee was reportedly admitted to a hospital inside the training facility on February 23 after feeling sick.

The woman is said to have been the target of an attempted rape by the male police officer, Babul Bhuyan, who was on duty at the time. The victim reported the event to a higher authority, but she said that top authorities did nothing despite her protests.

The entire incident wasn't revealed until February 26. The issue was reported after its due date, according to the SP of Golaghat. The SP stated that an investigation has been launched to learn the precise details of the incident.
