KARIMGANJ: In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through Assam, the state police forces have arrested three individuals, one of whom is a railway employee, for their alleged involvement in the strangulation and sexual assault of a minor girl in Karimganj district.

The lifeless body of the minor was discovered beside the Karimganj town bypass on September 9, the same day she was found dead, as reported by a news agency.

Sources state that the gruesome incident transpired on the exact same day, approximately at 11 p.m., when three of the accused forcibly entered the victim's residence. Subsequently, they engaged in sexual acts with her lifeless body, as informed by Superintendent of Police of Karimganj district, Partha Pratim Das.

"On September 9, a distressing incident occurred in Medal Part-I, where the lifeless body of a minor girl was found within her home during her parents' absence. In response, we registered a case (number 694/23) under Section 376(A) IPC, read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Following this, a post-mortem examination was conducted at Silchar Medical College," said Das.

During the course of the investigation, police uncovered a mobile number in the deceased girl's notebook, leading to the apprehension of three individuals- Biplab Paul, Shubra Malakar, and Rahul Das, reports ANI.

Later as the interrogation proceeded, one of the accused, Rahul Das admitted to attempting to establish a physical relationship with the victim, which was unsuccessful as the girl had declined his advances.

"On September 9, the three arrested individuals conspired to enter the girl's residence forcefully, with the intent to engage in physical contact. Consequently, they knocked on her door at approximately 11:30 p.m. After strangulating her, they attempted to engage in physical acts with her and subsequently departed the scene. We were able to gather substantial evidence from the mobile number," stated Superintendent of Police, Partha Pratim Das.

As per reports, the accused Rahul Das, a fourth-grade railway employee, emerged as the mastermind behind the heinous crime.
