GUWAHATI: In an operation conducted by the Jorabat police on Tuesday, three notorious dacoits were apprehended in the area. Biki Chetry from Sonapur, Zulap Sangram from Byrinhat, and Sayer Ali from Nalbari were the people in question. The arrests happened at Jorabat, which is a part of both Assam's Kamrup Metro district and Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district. The three were detained after the police obtained intelligence about their involvement in many robberies on the National Highway.

During the apprehension, the police also confiscated two mobile phones from the dacoits. This successful operation serves as a significant blow to their criminal activities and enhances public safety in the region.

Similarly, in a separate incident on June 11th, a five-member gang of dacoits was arrested in the Karimganj district of Assam. The Karimganj Police launched a large-scale operation in the Kayasthagram area, sealing off all entrance gates after receiving specific information about the presence of the dacoits. The police managed to seize a considerable cache of illegal arms and ammunition, including five firearms, several rounds of ammunition, three homemade guns, and two pistols, from the gang.

The apprehended dacoits in Karimganj were identified as Abdul Latif, Moinul Haque, Monir Uddin, Zamir Uddin, and Halim Uddin. The police had received prior intelligence suggesting that this group was planning a major robbery, prompting their swift action and subsequent capture.

Furthermore, in April, the Assam Police arrested another group of at least eight dacoits in Chirang district. The arrests took place in the Bhowraguri area of Bijni. The police seized various incriminating items from their possession, including Rs. 15,550 in cash, eight SIM cards, eight mobile phones, and sharp weapons such as machetes, swords, and a kukri. Additionally, two vehicles—a Xylo with registration number AS-19D 7473 and a TATA Magic van with registration number AS-19AC-4246—were also seized from the dacoits.

The arrested dacoits in Chirang were identified as Habu Sheikh, Ashraf Ali, Baser Ali, Kutur Ali, Abdul Mazid, Anisur Alam, Mahbubur Rahman, and Rasidur Ali. This operation disrupted their criminal activities and removed a significant threat from the region.

These series of arrests highlight the proactive efforts and effectiveness of the police in tackling dacoity and ensuring the safety of the public. By acting on intelligence inputs and conducting well-planned operations, law enforcement authorities have been successful in apprehending these dreaded dacoits and seizing their illegal possessions, contributing to a more secure environment in the respective districts.
