Assam: Tragic Picnic Mishap Claims Lives in Goreswar; Car Plunges into Canal

GUWAHATI: In a somber start to the new year, Assam witnessed another tragic incident during a picnic in Goreswar, where two lives were lost in a mishap on Sunday. The incident occurred near the renowned Bogamati picnic spot in Goreswar, located in the Baksa district of Assam.

Preliminary reports from Goreswar indicated that the accident transpired when the driver of a Maruti Brezza car, transporting the picnic group, lost control of the vehicle's steering wheel, leading to the car plunging into a nearby ditch. The unfortunate location of the mishap was a canal, part of the Sukla Irrigation Project in Goreswar.

As a consequence of the accident, two passengers in the car, identified as Pawan Rabha (45) and Sanjay Rabha (35), both residents of Kulsi gaon under Palasbari Police Station, lost their lives on the spot. The gravity of the situation prompted officials from the Goreswar Police Station and Suagpur Police Outpost to swiftly reach the scene upon receiving information about the incident.

Efforts were made to recover the bodies of the deceased, and they are currently being kept at the Jogen Basumatary Memorial Hospital in Suklai. The tragic turn of events serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with picnics, emphasizing the importance of safety measures and responsible driving.
