JORHAT: A devastating tragedy unfolded on Thursday morning in Teok, under Assam's Jorhat district, as a class 9 student lost her life in a heart-wrenching accident. The victim, identified as Farhina Begum, was a student at Teok Rajabri HS School, located in Sonari Gaon.

According to sources, the young girl was attempting to cross the road at the Mudoijan Tiniali area when a speeding truck with registration number 'AS-01-DD-1887' collided with her, tragically resulting in her immediate demise. The truck was en route to Sivasagar when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Quick-thinking locals near the scene promptly detained both the driver and the truck, while Teok police swiftly arrived to bring the situation under control. This sorrowful incident comes on the heels of two separate road accidents reported in Assam yesterday, claiming two lives.

In the first incident, transpiring in Orang, one individual lost their life on the spot, while two women sustained severe injuries and remain in critical condition after a speeding four-wheeler struck them. The accident unfolded along national highway 15 in Orang, Darrang district, as the pedestrians were walking alongside the road when the vehicle, traveling at high speed, struck them from behind, leading to one fatality.

In the second tragic incident, a seven-year-old child met a heartbreaking end after being struck by a pick-up truck. The accident occurred in Borgaon village, situated within Tinsukia and falling under the jurisdiction of the Phillobari Police Station. The young child's life was tragically cut short when a Bolero pick-up vehicle, transporting raw tea leaves, ran over them.

Following the significant road mishap on the newly inaugurated Nilachal flyover, another accident was reported within 24 hours near the flyover in the Kamakhya Gate area on Sunday morning. According to sources, a DI pickup van plying on the Nilachal flyover bearing registration number ML10 C 5644 was heading towards Bharalamukh from Maligaon. The vehicle lost control and collided with a Swift car bearing registration AS01 HC 3592, causing damage to the vehicle. As a result, the pickup van turned turtle.

No injuries were reported. The driver of the pickup van fled from the scene. The Jalukbari Traffic Police arrived at the spot. It may be mentioned that a similar accident was reported on Saturday, where at least one person died on the spot and several others succumbed to injuries after a speeding truck hit four motorcycles and a bus atop the flyover.
