Assam: Two Arrested with Arms Cache in Karbi Anglong District

GUWAHATI: In a crucial joint operation conducted by the Karbi Anglong Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), a major breakthrough was achieved as two cadres of the recently emerged militant outfit, United Peoples Front of Karbi Longri (UPFKL), were arrested along with a substantial cache of arms and ammunition in the Manja locality of Karbi Anglong district, Assam. The incident took place on Friday when an Alto car, bearing the registration number AS 01 EF 0152, was intercepted, leading to the discovery of the concealed weapons.

The search inside the vehicle revealed a haul of dangerous weaponry, including a 9mm pistol with a magazine and four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, a .22 pistol with a magazine and five rounds of live .22mm ammunition, as well as three hand grenades and two detonators. The immediate arrest of the two individuals, identified as Rajesh Phangso (33) and Sanjay Engti (32), both residents of West Karbi Anglong, was made possible due to this significant seizure of illicit arms.

During intense police interrogation, it was disclosed that Sanjay Engti held a pivotal role as the C-N-C (Commander-in-Chief) of the newly established extremist group, UPFKL. The duo admitted to having recently formed the militant organization and were in possession of the procured arms and ammunition, which they had hidden inside the Alto car.

This development is a major blow to UPFKL, as law enforcement authorities have thwarted their immediate plans through their swift action. A case has been registered at the Manja Police Station, and authorities are continuing their investigation to apprehend other members of the organization and uncover any potential links or activities.

The arrests and discovery of the arms cache indicate the vigilance and dedication of the Karbi Anglong Police and CRPF in their relentless efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of the region's residents. This operation serves as a clear message to any potential threat groups that the security forces are determined to maintain peace and stability in Assam and are prepared to take decisive action against any attempts to disrupt it.

The successful apprehension of two UPFKL cadres and the confiscation of a significant stockpile of arms and ammunition have significantly impacted the organization's plans and ambitions. The joint operation highlights the synergy between the Karbi Anglong Police and CRPF in combating terrorism and underscores their commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the local population. Further investigations remain underway to dismantle the organization completely and bring all its members to justice.
