JAMUGURIHAT: Two children of the same family - Abidur (7) and Rijuwan (5) respectively, died by drowning on Saturday evening in the Brahmaputra River under Sootea PS.

According to information, two sons of one Abdul Jalal, a resident of No 2 Bhojamri on the southern part of Sootea, went to play with their friends. When they did not return home till late afternoon, then the family members started to look for them. Later a fisherman spotted two floating bodies on the river side of the Brahmaputra. He immediately informed the locals and the family members as well.

Accordingly, the family members and the local residents reached the accident site and identified the bodies. According to family sources, one of the children fell into a nearby ditch and the other tried to pull him up and both fell into the ditch. A team of Sootea police reached the site and sent the bodies for autopsy.
