GUWAHATI: Two girls from the Guwahati metropolis have been suspected to join the ULFA-I (United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent) led by Paresh Baruah.
The two girls have been identified as Rumi Deka and Saraswati Das, both residents of the Kharguli area in Uzan Bazar. They were working at a private company in Guwahati.
According to reports both Rumi and Saraswati went missing on Tuesday 15 February.
Before going out of their houses they told family members that they will be visiting a friend's house in Dibrugarh town as they have some work there. As they left for Dibrugarh, it was unable to connect them further.
On Wednesday 16 February, it was reported that both the girls reached the ULFA-I camp however their location is not exactly known.
Meanwhile, the family members are completely unaware of where the girls are instead they said that through media they were informed about the girls joining ULFA-I.
The investigation about the case is going on at present and it is not clear whether the girls joined ULFA-I or they are kidnapped.
Recently, it came to focus that the military outfit ULFA-I is allegedly luring the youth through social media platforms to join the group.
But on 9 February, ULFA-I denied all allegations saying that it has not used social media for the recruitment of members in the group.
The military outfit also issued a statement in this regard where they alleged that certain forces and police officials are the ones behind this conspiracy. Police and other forces are making fake accounts on Facebook in the name of the outfit and luring the youth with no job to join it.
In the letter issued, ULFA-I made it clear that the outfit is not operating any such activity nor it is recruiting youths using social media.
In addition, the military outfit claimed that it is a conspiracy that aims to destroy their image and to allow the departmental heads to gain promotion.
Earlier on 12 November 2021, 2 national-level kick-boxers and three other girls from Assam have joined ULFA-I.
A video clip at that time was widely circulated in social media where it was seen that these groups of girls along with a boy were moving ahead towards dense forest areas. In the viral video, they claimed to have joined the banned military outfit.
